JACKSONVLLE — The Jax State soccer team will conclude the 2025 season with a match against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Sunday, October 26. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
The match also signifies Jax State's Senior Day. Prior to the match, the Gamecocks will honor student-athletes Lea Monteiro, Raylin Dixon, Evie Crawford, Louise Featherstone, and Zemira Webb. In addition, the team will also honor student assistants Alex Millan and Tyler Martin, as well as athletic trainer Lauren Quashie.
Jax State is 6-8-3 overall and 0-6-1 in Conference USA play. Last week, the Gamecocks only had one match, falling on the road to Kennesaw State, 2-1. Lara Aitken scored with just moments left in the first half to give the Gamecocks a 1-0 lead going into halftime, but two second half goals from Kennesaw State would seal the game in favor of the Owls.
Western Kentucky is 8-4-3 overall this season with a 5-0-2 mark in CUSA play. WKU is one of two undefeated teams in conference play, with Liberty being the other. The Hilltoppers had two matches last week, tying UTEP on Thursday in Bowling Green, 1-1, before taking down New Mexico State, 2-0, on Sunday.
The two have met three times in program history, with both meetings in conference play ending in ties. The 2023 meeting in Jacksonville ended in a 1-1 draw thanks to Laleh Lonteen's 90th minute equalizer. In 2024, the meeting in Bowling Green ended in a scoreless draw. The first meeting between the two came in neutral site action in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where WKU took down Jax State 3-1.
A WKU win and Liberty tie or loss would give WKU the regular season crown. If both WKU and Liberty win or tie, they will both get a share of the crown. If Jax State topples or ties WKU and Liberty wins, the Flames will earn the regular season title. Should both WKU and Liberty lose, Sam Houston will win the regular season title.
