JACKSONVILLE – For the second-straight contest, Jacksonville State registered a draw as JSU and Eastern Kentucky finished the Sunday match all square at 1-1.
The Gamecocks posted a pair of ties on the first home weekend of Ohio Valley Conference home action.  JSU and Morehead State played to a scoreless draw on Friday night at the JSU Soccer Field.
JSU moved to 2-10-2 on the season and 1-1-2 in OVC play.  The Colonels' record stands at 4-6-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference matches.
After playing a scoreless 82 minutes, it took just two minutes for each team to post its lone goal.  JSU took the lead in the 83rd minute after junior
Katie Manns scored her first goal of the season on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box.  Manns, from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., sailed the ball just past EKU's keeper, Annie Wickett.  The netted ball was just her second of her career and first against OVC competition.  Manns led JSU in scoring attempts with shots, including three on goal.
“I thought
Katie Manns really played well for us today,” said head coach Julie Davis Carlson.  “She played all 110 minutes in today's match and on Friday.”
The Colonels quickly responded with the equalizing goal in the 84th minute.  EKU's Stephany Ellison snuck a deflected ball past Jax State's
Katelyn Geddings.
Both teams combined for 42 shots with EKU holding a ten-shot advantage over the Gamecocks (26-16).  After just four shots in the first 45 minutes, JSU had 12 over the 65 minutes of action.  In the first extra session, JSU had four chances for the golden goal.
“The goal was good to get off of a free kick,” added Carlson.  “We definitely came out in the second half looking to generate more offense and I think we did a good job of that.  I thought we did a good job of bouncing back from Friday in terms of generating more offense today.”
Geddings turned in another fine performance with seven saves in the Sunday contest.  She finished the weekend with 17 saves and allowed just one goal in a pair of double overtime contests.
Ellison paced the EKU offense with a team-high six shots.
JSU continues its current home stand on Friday, Oct. 7, hosting Tennessee Tech.  Kick off is set for 7 p.m. at the JSU Soccer Field.  The Golden Eagles dropped to 0-4 in the OVC after a 1-0 loss to Morehead State on Sunday.
