JACKSONVILLE – After ten non-conference games, the Jacksonville State soccer team will open Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend in the state of Illinois.

The weekend begins for the Gamecocks in Edwardsville, Ill. as they face OVC-newcomer SIU Edwardsville in a 7 p.m. contest at Ralph Korte Stadium. JSU journeys over to Charlston, Ill. on Sunday against Eastern Illinois. Kick off is set for Noon.

Jax State is coming off a 1-1 weekend after earning its first win of the season last Friday night at home against Jackson State. The Red and White suffered a tough, 3-2, setback last Sunday at Troy. A pair of Gamecocks were rewarded for their efforts on the pitch last weekend as senior Chelsea Pelletier claimed the OVC's Defensive Player of the Week honor, while junior Nathalee Lariviere earned the league's offensive award.

The JSU-SIUE tilt will be the first between the two programs. The Cougars enter their first weekend of OVC competition with a 2-2-1 overall mark. SIUE recorded a scoreless double overtime draw with St. Louis in its last outing. The Panthers of EIU (1-6-2) host Tennessee Tech on Friday before Sunday's match with JSU. EIU owns a 6-2-1 mark over JSU and has claimed the last two meetings between the two squads.

After this weekend's road activity, JSU returns home to open a five-match homestand on Friday, Sept. 30 against Morehead State.
