Gamecock Soccer Hits The Road For Final OVC Trip

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer team takes its final regular season road trip this weekend as it visits Murray State on Friday afternoon before concluding the weekend trip in Clarksville, Tenn. against Austin Peay on Sunday.

The Gamecocks begin the stretch run with a 10-4-2 overall mark and a 3-2-1 record in Ohio Valley Conference play with two weekends remaining in the league.  Jax State is one of four teams jumbled up with the same OVC mark.  The top six teams in the league will earn spots in the 2012 OVC Soccer Championship, which will be held at the site of the regular season champion.  Heading into the weekend, the Skyhawks of UT Martin has the inside track to hosting the event, but plenty to play for in the next two weeks.

JSU will be looking to rebound from its first OVC home loss last Friday night as Belmont overcame a 1-0 deficit with under a minute left in the contest to equalize and then post the golden goal in the second overtime session.

The Racers of Murray State have struggled this season with a 1-5 OVC mark and 3-10 overall.  MSU's league win came against the Lady Govs of APSU on Sept. 23 and will be looking to snap a five-match losing streak.

Friday's afternoon duel will be the tenth all time between the two schools with MSU holding a slight 5-3-1 edge.  The lone draw in the series came last season in Jacksonville as the two programs played to a scoreless draw.  The last JSU win in the series during the 2007 season and the last win against MSU on its home pitch came in 2006.

APSU enters the weekend one of the four teams jumbled up at 3-2-1 in the OVC.  The Lady Govs have posted a 7-7-1 overall mark after the first 15 matches of the season.  After starting OVC play with losses to Murray State and UTM, APSU has rebounded to win three of its last four matches.  In its last outing, APSU recorded a draw with SIU Edwardsville last Sunday.

Following the road trip, JSU returns home for the final weekend and will a pivotal weekend as UT Martin and Southeast Missouri will be the opposition.  The JSU-UTM match is slated for Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.  The match will be JSU's “Pink Out” match as it supports Breast Cancer Awareness month during the month of October.
