Gamecock Volleyball on the Road Again to Belmont and Tennessee State

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville State volleyball team returns to the road this weekend, when the Gamecocks travel to Nashville to face Belmont on Friday and Tennessee State on Saturday.

The Gamecocks (9-9, 3-1) will be looking to rebound after being swept in their home opener against SEMO on Friday. They will open the road trip against Ohio Valley Conference newcomer Belmont (6-12, 2-2) on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Curb Event Center, a match that can be seen on the OVC's Digital Network. The match against Tennessee State (9-9, 3-1) has been moved up to 11 a.m. at Kean Hall on Saturday.

Belmont fell 3-2 to Tennessee State last week but rebounded with a sweep over SIU Edwardsville to stay at .500 in OVC play. The Bruins boast the third best hitting percentage in league play at .243 and are led by junior Jen Myer, who leads the team with 3.07 kills per set against OVC foes.

Tennessee State is currently tied with JSU for second place in the OVC East division. Outside hitter Rachel Ambroch was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week and setter Erika Moss was named Setter of the Week for the second time this season after the Tigers defeated Belmont and swept SIUE last week.

JSU senior Kelsey Anderson, the reigning OVC Defensive Player of the Week, currently leads the conference with 6.77 digs per set in conference play. Sophomore Alina Agamy ranks first with 11.85 assists per set in OVC play while senior Jen Meyer and freshman Emily Rutherford are tied with 3.38 kills per set in conference play. Meyer also ranks sixth in conference play with a .330 hitting percentage.

The Gamecocks will return home following this road trip for back-to-back weekend matches at Pete Mathews Coliseum. Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky come to town on Oct.12 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 13 at 2 p.m., respectively, while the Gamecocks will get a rematch of this weekends match ups with Tennessee State on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. and Belmont on Oct. 20 at 3 p.m.
