JACKSONVILLE – After picking up its first win of the season last Sunday at Georgia State, the Jacksonville State soccer team will look to carry that momentum into the second weekend of competition as they travel to Jackson State and Alabama A&M.
JSU ventures to the Magnolia State on Friday for a 4 p.m. tilt with the Tigers of Jackson State before making the short trip to Huntsville, Ala. on Sunday for a 2 p.m. matinee contest with the Bulldogs on Sunday.

The Gamecocks, 1-1, after opening the 2012 campaign last weekend with a tough 2-0 setback in the opener against Middle Tennessee State at home before bouncing back to top GSU, 2-1, in Atlanta, Ga. The Tigers of Jackson State enter the weekend at 0-2 with losses to Lipscomb and Stephen F. Austin last weekend.
AAMU will also be looking for its first win of the season this weekend as they face MTSU on Friday before welcoming the Gamecocks to campus. The Maroon and White stand at 0-2 with setbacks to Kennesaw State and South Carolina State.
Friday's meeting with Jackson State will be the third in as many seasons as the two programs have met in the last two seasons. The two squads played to a 1-1 draw in 2010 in Jackson, Miss. before Jax State posted an overtime win over the Tigers last year in Jacksonville.
The meeting with AAMU will be the fourth on the pitch between the two in-state rivals with JSU holding a 2-1 edge in the series. The last meeting came during the 2009 season with the Gamecocks blanking AAMU, 4-0.
The tandem of sophomore
Courtney Hurt and freshman
Brianna Boutziouvis led the JSU offense in the opening weekend of the season. Hurt, who will be playing in her hometown (Huntsville, Ala.) on Sunday, leads the squad in shots with four and posted the game-winner at GSU on a penalty kick opportunity. Boutziouvis has made the transition from the high school ranks to the collegiate game as she scored JSU's first goal of the season in the opening half against the Panthers of GSU.
JSU maintains its road status next weekend as it travels to Troy, Ala. to take part in the Trojan Classic on Aug. 30 and Sept. 2. The Gamecocks will face Stetson in the opening match and Louisiana Tech to close out the weekend.
