JSU Volleyball Looks to Continue Winning Streak at Auburn Invitational

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State University volleyball team will look to continue its winning ways this weekend, when the team travels to Auburn, Ala., to participate in the Auburn Invitational.

The Gamecocks (4-0) will face High Point (3-1) Friday morning at 10 a.m. and Georgia Southern (2-2) at 5 p.m. JSU will conclude the tournament against Auburn (3-0) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Seniors Kelsey Anderson and Jen Meyer helped the Gamecocks win last weekend's ISTAP Collegiate Cup Championship hosted by Alabama State. The Gamecocks took down Stetson (3-2), Southeastern Louisiana (3-0), South Dakota (3-2) and ASU (3-0).

Anderson was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week and the MVP of the ISTAP Collegiate Cup after recording three double-doubles. Overall she finished with 45 kills and 41 digs. Meyer was named to the all-tournament team after posting 19 kills in the Gamecocks' victory over Stetson University.

Head coach Joseph Goodson has guided his team to just the second 4-0 start since the Gamecocks moved up to Division I competition in 1995. Former JSU head coach and current Auburn volleyball head coach Rick Nold coached the Gamecocks to a 4-0 start in 2006, when JSU went on to win the OVC Regular Season and Tournament titles.

Several Gamecocks currently find themselves ranked in the Top 10 in several OVC statistical categories. Meyer leads the conference in hitting percentage, while Anderson ranks ninth with a .314 hitting percentage. Junior setter Abbey Heredia is seventh with 8.88 assists per set after recording 142 assists over the weekend. Anderson also leads the conference with 10 service aces and ranks fourth with 0.62 aces per set. Junior defensive specialist Kelly Cole ranks eighth with 4.12 digs per set after recording 66 digs over the weekend.
