Gamecock Volleyball Continues Road Swing

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State volleyball team will conclude a four-match road swing with a pair of Ohio Valley Conference matches in Nashville, Tenn., against Tennessee State and Belmont this weekend.
 
The Gamecocks (11-12, 4-4 OVC) are looking to rebound after dropping two matches to Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky on the road last weekend and will get a pair of OVC rematches against the Lady Tigers (8-12, 4-5 OVC) on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Bruins (12-12, 5-3 OVC) at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Freshman Kacy Clinkenbeard led JSU with 15 kills while junior Nicole Merget added 12 kills on a .409 attack percentage in the sweep over TSU earlier this season. The Gamecocks limited the Lady Tigers to a .162 hitting percentage while posting a .256 attack percentage in the 25-21, 26-24, 30-28 sweep. Naomi Wells led TSU with 17 kills and 14 digs while setter Erika Moss finished the match with 39 assists and 20 digs.
 
TSU enters the weekend after sweeping (25-17, 25-20, 25-18) Tennessee Tech on Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn. Wells again led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills on the day while hitting .375. Wells enters the weekend ranked fourth in conference play with 3.44 kills per set.
 
Sophomore Emily Rutherford finished with a double-double of 11 kills and 14 digs in the first meeting against Belmont at Pete Mathews Coliseum earlier this season but the Bruins still managed to pull away for the 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-22) sweep. The Bruins posted a .212 attack percentage while limiting the Gamecocks to a .111 attack percentage for the match. Allison McCoy led Belmont with 12 kills on a .458 attack percentage while Jen Myer led the way with 24 digs.
 
Belmont enters the weekend leading the OVC with a .247 attack percentage in conference games while ranking second by limiting conference foes to a .158 attack percentage. McCoy leads the conference with a .412 attack percentage while setter Hannah Miranda ranks second with 11.04 assists per match.
 
The Gamecocks currently lead the OVC with 18.52 digs per set in conference matches. Rutherford enters the weekend ranked seventh in the conference with 3.34 kills per set in conference play while Merget ranks seventh with 0.97 blocks per set against conference foes.
