JSU Volleyball Wraps Up Road Trip with Loss to Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State volleyball team ended a four-match road trip with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-14) loss to Belmont University at the Curb Event Center in Ohio Valley Conference action.
 
With the loss the Gamecocks fall to 11-14 overall and 4-6 in conference play after being limited to a .108 hitting percentage in the match. The Bruins managed to post a .240 attack percentage while improving to 14-12 overall and 7-3 in conference play.
 
Sophomore Emily Rutherford led JSU with nine kills on the day while senior Abbey Heredia finished with 21 assists. Defensively, the Gamecocks were led by senior Kelly Cole with 14 digs.
 
Jen Myer led the Bruins with 15 kills and 12 digs on a .429 attack percentage while Alex Martin finished with 12 kills on a .444 attack percentage. Hannah Miranda finished with 42 assists and 10 digs while Jamie Lundstrom led Belmont with 22 digs.
 
With the opening set tied 20-17, the Gamecocks used four errors by the Bruin to tie the match at 22-22. After the two teams swapped points, Belmont used kills by McCoy and Myer to open the match with the 25-23 victory.
 
The Bruins limited the Gamecocks to a -.050 attack percentage while racing out to a 19-10 lead in the second set. Myer finished the set with five kills while the Bruins posted a .194 attack percentage. Rutherford led the Gamecocks with three kills in the game but JSU could not overcome a slow start and dropped the second set 25-13.
 
The two teams found themselves tied 11-11 in the third set before the Bruins outscored the Gamecocks 14-3 down the stretch for the 25-14 match-clinching victory. Myer again led Belmont with seven kills in the set as the Bruins limited the Gamecocks to a .065 attack percentage in the set.
 
The Gamecocks will return back home to Pete Mathews Coliseum for a pair of OVC games against Eastern Kentucky on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., before welcoming Morehead State to town on Saturday Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.
