The Second Season: JSU Begins OVC Action With Eastern Kentucky: Jacksonville State begins the second season as it begins its Ohio Valley Conference schedule with Eastern Kentucky. JSU closed out the non-conference last weekend with a final tally of 4-4-1. Last weekend, the Gamecocks posted a 1-1 mark with a double overtime win over Alabama State and a tough setback to Georgia State. The Colonels of EKU enter conference play in search of their first win of the season. EKU, who has played a tough non-conference slate, stands at 0-7-1 on the season after falling to No. 10 West Virginia and Evansville last weekend. 

Lights, Camera, Action: The battle between the Gamecocks and Colonels will be available on the OVC Digital Network.  Voice of the Gamecocks, Mike Parris and former Gamecock goalkeeper Ali Koenig will be behind the mics describing all the action.  The live video stream is free of charge.

The JSU-EKU Series: Friday's OVC lid lifter between JSU and EKU will be the ninth head-to-head meeting between two programs. The Colonels own a 5-2-1 mark on the Gamecocks and has won five of the last six contests. The two sides turned in a 1-1 deadlock last time they met at the JSU Soccer Field in 2011. EKU topped Jax State last season in Richmond, 2-1.

Gamecocks In OVC Openers: The Gamecocks will look to extend their winning streak in to four matches in OVC openers tonight. Since joining the league, the Red and White have a 5-4-1 mark in OVC openers. EKU and JSU have never played in the first match of the conference docket.

Defensive Dowd: JSU's Katt Dowd has been named the Ohio Valley Conference's Defensive Player of the Week after two solid performances last weekend on the pitch. Dowd, a sophomore from Kingwood, Texas, netted the game-winning goal in the waning minutes of Jax State's double overtime win over Alabama State on Friday. She booted the ball from 30 yards out from the left side to sail it into the back of the net for the game winner. Dowd also thwarted many ASU runs and kept Georgia State off the attack.

Hammond Among NCAA Leaders In Total Saves: After nine matches through the 2013 season, sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Hammond ranks in the top-20 in NCAA Division I Soccer in total saves. Hammond, from Suwanee, Ga., has made 56 total stops in her first season in goal and averages 6.2 saves per match. She is among three goalkeepers in the OVC that are listed among the NCAA leaders in the same category.

Jax State Wraps Up OVC Opening Weekend: The Gamecocks close out their season-longest four-match homestand and the first weekend of OVC play on Sunday, Sept. 29, hosting the Eagles of Morehead State. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
