JACKSONVILLE –
Jackie Rush and
Brianna Boutziouvis each scored a pair of goals to lead Jacksonville State to a 4-0 win over in-state foe Alabama A&M in its 2013 home debut.
The win moved the Gamecocks to 2-2-1 on the season, while the Lady Bulldogs fell to 0-5-0 overall.  The contest marked the home debut of first-year head coach
Neil Macdonald.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, Jax State broke through for its first of four second half goals with the first one coming at the 57th minute.  Rush, a junior from Trophy Club, Texas, put the ball in the back of the net after a header off of a corner kick from
Mackenzie Bellows.  It was Rush's fourth goal of the season and has scored in three of the five matches on the season and the third time she has scored multiple goals in a contest.
Rush added her second goal of the night three minutes later after taking a feed from
Olivia Drapes and dribbled past the AAMU keeper.
Boutziouvis scored her first two goals of her sophomore season in the 61st minute and the 81st.  The Ottawa, Ontario, Canada-forward got past the Lady Bulldog defense and sent the ball past the keeper for her first goal.  The final goal of the night for Boutziouvis came after an assist from
Kristen Hoo and dribbled past the keeper for the goal.  It marked the first time in her young JSU career to card multiple goals in a match.
The Gamecocks controlled the tempo and possession for most of the contest and out-shot the Maroon and White, 26-3.  JSU had ample scoring chances in both halves with 13 shots each half.  Five different Gamecocks booted multiple shots, led by Rush's seven scoring chances.
Kelsey Bright and Boutziouvis had six and five shots respectively.
JSU will have a rare Sunday off and return to action on Friday, Sept. 13, hosting another in-state program.  Jax State and Troy will renew its rivalry at the JSU Soccer Field with a 7 p.m. contest.  Admission is free.
