MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Jacksonville State men's and women's tennis teams closed out the weekend with a pair of wins over Florida A&M on the final day of the Alabama State Invitational in the capital city.

The JSU men completed the weekend sweep with a 6-1 win over the Rattlers, while the Gamecock women blanked FAMU, 7-0.  Both squads improved to 3-3 on the season.

In the men's match, JSU claimed the doubles point after winning at No. 2 and 3 doubles.  The Gamecock tandem of freshman Jaryd Reese and junior Felipe Wenzel topped FAMU's team of Robert Ortiz and Carols Waitman.  JSU's freshmen duo of Mathias Chaim and Dylan Gee turned in an 8-4 win over Jalen Evans and Courage Okungbowa.

The Gamecocks carried the momentum from doubles in to singles by winning five of the six singles matches to claim their third consecutive win after dropping the first three matches of the season.  Pedro Wagner started things at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Admire Mushonga.  Reese continued his stellar play with a straight-sets win over Zack Evenden – 6-2, 6-4.  At No. 3, Gee ousted Ortiz – 6-3, 6-2, while Chaim and  Felipe Diaz registered wins at No. 5 and 6.

The Jax State women started strong just like the men's squad as the sweep started with the win in doubles.  The top pairing of Raisa Guasti and Olivia Nguyen edged FAMU's Elysia Ortiz and Symone Townsend, 9-8.  Juniors Zoe Bizinos and Danielle Kerindi clinched the doubles point for JSU with an 8-4 win over Dominique Henry and Alexis Dean.

Even though JSU won all six singles matches, FAMU extended a trio of matches to three sets.  At No. 2, Nguyen bounced back after dropping the first set to Townsend to win the next two – 6-3, 7-5.  Freshman Claudia Marsala mirrored Nguyen by falling in the first set at No. 3 to Blackwood, but regrouped to win in straight sets – 6-2, 7-5.  At No. 4, Bizinos needed all three sets to down her foe – Henry after splitting the first two sets.  Bizinos won the third-and-deciding tiebreaker set, 10-5.

Guasti quickly disposed of Dean at No. 1 – 6-1, 6-0, while Isidora Knezevic and Sadey St. Amant recorded wins at No. 5 and 6.

JSU returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to in-state rival Samford for a 2 p.m. match.
