JSU Soccer Falls To Georgia State; Travels to Jackson State on Sunday

Box Score
JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State's offensive struggles continued on Friday night as Georgia State downed the Gamecocks 4-0 at the JSU Soccer Field.

JSU dropped to 1-4 on the season, while the Panthers extended their season-opening win streak to four with the result.  Jax State's weekend activity shifts to the road with a Sunday contest at Jackson State in Jackson, Mississippi.  Match time is set for 1 p.m.

It marked the third consecutive shut out by the JSU opposition, dating back to the opening weekend of the campaign.  The Panthers were able to post 18 total shots in the contest, while limiting the Gamecocks' offense in the match.  Jax State finished with five shots and was held to one in the second half.  GSU, after taking the lead nine minutes deep into the match, collected 11 of its total in the final 45 minutes.

The Panthers were able to get passed Jax State's backline in three of the four goals.  Ashley Nagy registered the first goal of the night after dribbling deep into the box and sent the ball in front of the goal.  GSU extended the lead and added insurance with three goals over the final 13 minutes.  Suzanne Arafa gave the Panthers a 2-0 advantage in the 77th minute after getting by a JSU defender and connecting with the net at the right post.  Alexis Thomas slipped past the JSU defense in the 88th minute for the third goal of the night.  GSU finished off the scoring with just three seconds left in the game as Caitlin Ray headed a serve from the right side off of a corner kick.  GSU had 10 corner kicks in the win, while JSU had just one.

Senior Kelsey Bright led the Gamecocks with a pair of shots, including one on goal chance.  Senior Courtney Hurt was credited with JSU's other on goal scoring opportunity.
