JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer team will wrap up the 2016 season with a rare Thursday night contest against Ohio Valley Conference foe Belmont.
The final match of the year will get underway at 7 p.m. at the JSU Soccer Field. Admission is free to all JSU home matches. The match will also be available on the OVC Digital Network.
Jax State's postseason fate was sealed last weekend with a pair of tough 1-0 losses at Murray State and Austin Peay. The Gamecocks were looking to make the OVC Tournament for the third consecutive year under head coach
Neil Macdonald. The Gamecocks enter the final contest at 5-12-1 overall and 2-7-0 in OVC play. The Bruins of Belmont, who will extend their season in the OVC Tournament field, stand at 5-8-4 on the season and 4-4-1 in the league. The Bruins enter the contest in the sixth and final spot in the field, but could improve their seeding with a win.
Even though JSU has already honored its 2016 senior class earlier in the season, Thursday's tilt marks the final match for the large senior class. The class has helped Macdonald establish the program within the league and participated in two consecutive OVC Tournaments in 2014 and 2015. JSU's run to the 2014 OVC Championship match will be one of the highlights that the senior class will be remembered for. The senior class includes –

Kristen Hoo.
JSU owns a 7-2 overall lead in the series, including the last two decisions in the series. Last season in Nashville, JSU blanked the Bruins 1-0 and the last time the two sides met in Jacksonville, the Gamecocks posted a 4-2 result.
