JACKSONVILLE – After five matches away from the home pitch, the Jacksonville State soccer team returns to the JSU Soccer Field this weekend for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference battles.
The Gamecocks will host the Panthers of Eastern Illinois on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and close out the weekend on Sunday with an afternoon match against SIU Edwardsville. Match time is set for 1 p.m. and will be available on the OVC Digital Network.
JSU (3-7-1, 0-2 OVC) will be looking to bounce back in OVC action after dropping both league contests last weekend at Tennessee Tech and Eastern Kentucky. EIU begins the weekend at 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the OVC. The Panthers gained a split on the opening weekend of the OVC with a setback to Southeast Missouri and a win over UT Martin in their last outing. SIUE (4-4-2) is one of three teams to start the conference slate 2-0 after recording wins over UTM and SEMO.
Jax State continues to rank among the league leaders in total shots with 132 and averaging 12 shots per match, but have struggled to find scoring. The Gamecocks have nine goals on the season and have only allowed 15 to the opposition. JSU's offense has been balanced throughout the first 11 matches as freshman

Cheyenne Carden has posted JSU's goal against OVC foes as she tallied her first career goal last Friday at Tech. Junior Kayla Thomson continues to lead JSU in shots with 23 on the season and averaging at least two attempts per match.
JSU and EIU will meet for the 15th time on Friday evening as the Panthers play their first road OVC match this year. EIU leads the all-time series 8-4-2 with the teams playing to a 0-0 draw last year in Charleston, Illinois. JSU will be looking for its third consecutive win in its OVC home debut as it claimed the first OVC home contest in 2014 and 2015. Sunday's contest between JSU and the Cougars of SIUE will break a 3-3-0 tie in the series between the two clubs. The Gamecocks came away from Edwardsville, Illinois last season with a thrilling 1-0 win in double overtime.
