JSU Set to Meet ECU in Thanksgiving Classic

GAME NOTES

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.
– The Jacksonville State women's basketball team is set to take on East Carolina on Saturday afternoon to kick off the Seton Hall Thanksgiving Classic at historic Walsh Gymnasium.

The Gamecocks (3-1) are off to their best start in three seasons when the program started 6-1 on its way to a program Division I record 19 wins in 2014-15. Senior Gretchen Morrison has been the driving force on the offensive side averaging 17. 3 points per game through the first two weeks. Junior Rayven Pearson is nearly averaging a double-double at 9.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest.

Through four games, JSU's only setback came to nationally-ranked Florida State. Even with the FSU loss, the Gamecocks are averaging outscoring their opponents by 25 this season, while averaging 77.5 points per game thanks to a 103 and 93 point performances early on. The Gamecock defense, which has led the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring defense the past three seasons, is allowing just 52 points from its opponent.

Saturday's game against East Carolina is slated for 2:30 p.m. ET. The Pirates (1-3) are coming off a tough overtime loss to William and Mary on Monday. With the newness of the American Conference, JSU has not faced a member from the league since its realignment. However, the Gamecocks last played a current member in Memphis to open the 2015-16 season, and last beat a current member when they defeated UCF in January of 2000, when both schools were part of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Following ECU, Jax State will face either Rider or host, Seton Hall, on Sunday. Live state to both game are available at JSUGamecockSports.com.
