JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team improved to 7-5 on Friday with a 5-2 victory over Chattanooga at the JSU Tennis Courts. The Gamecocks earned the doubles point and four individual wins during the seventh home contest of the season.

"It's always nice to get a win at home," head coach
Andres Amores said. "Chattanooga is a well-coached team and is always a tough opponent. Our guys played very well today, and it's always great to get back in the win column."

Despite falling at the No. 1 doubles spot, the freshman team of
Paolo Cucalon and
Guillermo Agost earned a 6-2 set victory at the No. 2 slot, while senior
Mathias Chaim and sophomore
Andres Gomez secured the doubles win with a 6-3 set in the rubber match.

JSU took four of six singles match, dropping the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Chaim and Agost each added singles victories to their doubles wins, while
Pablo Caffarena Felix Morck claimed the other two singles wins.

Jacksonville State hosts Eastern Illinois a week from today, March 17, to open Ohio Valley Conference play. The Gamecocks' first league match of the year is tabbed to begin at 10 a.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts.
