MACON, Ga. – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team stumbled Wednesday, falling 5-2 to Mercer on the road.

The Gamecocks (7-1, 0-0 OVC) suffered their first loss of the season, dropping a three-point match to the Bears (5-3, 0-0 SoCon) in Macon, Ga.

JSU claimed two points in the midweek match, taking the No. 5 and No. 6 contests.
Alba Conejero earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Lucia Gutierrez, and
Marine Alberteau topped Maeva Roquebert 3-6, 7-6, 10-6.

Mercer began the day by taking the doubles point in two sets, then went on to take the first four points in singles play.
Malin Buechner,
Elena Tendero and
Diana Monsalve each suffered their first losses of the season in singles action.

The Gamecocks return to the court Friday, March 9 to take on UT Martin at noon at the JSU Tennis Courts. It begins a nine-game Ohio Valley Conference slate.
