JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State will put its perfect start to the 2018 campaign on the line this weekend as it will tour the state of Georgia for a pair of matches.

JSU will start the weekend in Statesboro, Georgia on Friday against Georgia Southern and wrap up the weekend on Sunday versus Georgia State in Atlanta.  Friday's opening kick is set for 6 p.m. CST at GS's Eagle Field.  Sunday's weekend finale will start at 12 p.m. CST at the GSU Soccer Complex.  Both matches will be available to view via live stats at JSUGamecockSports.com.

For the first time in the program's history, JSU opened a season with two consecutive wins.  The Gamecocks made their initial appearance of the season last Friday at the JSU Soccer Field with a season-opening 2-1 decision over Louisiana-Monroe.  Jax State capped off the dominating weekend with a 7-0 blanking of Jackson State in its first road test of the season.

JSU produced one of the top-scoring performances on the first weekend of the NCAA opening weekend.  JSU posted nine total goals, which ranked sixth in NCAA Division I Soccer.  Head coach Neil Macdonald's club posted a 44-9 advantage over the two opening weekend opponents and enters the weekend ranked seventh in shots on goal.

A trio of Gamecocks recorded multiple goals in the first weekend of action, led by senior forward Claire Petersen, who was named the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week.  Petersen showed why she is one of two captains on the club with her performance against Louisiana-Monroe on Friday night and Sunday at Jackson State.  The Herman, Maine forward collected a pair of goals in Jax State's 7-0 blanking of the Tigers of Jackson State.  Petersen opened her final season as a Gamecock with an assist on JSU's first goal of the season.  She combined for seven total shots, including four on goal opportunities.

Junior Nadia Plawiuk netted a goal in each contest, along with an assist.  Sophomore Chloe Doherty tallied back-to-back goals in the Jackson State contest.

Redshirt freshman Morgan Lerch made her Gamecock debut with a pair of wins in goal and collected a pair of saves.  The JSU defense has allowed just three shots on goal.

Following the weekend in the Peach State, JSU will begins its longest homestand of the season, beginning on Friday, August 31 against new NCAA Division I member, North Alabama.  Jax State will face Troy in a rare Tuesday night affair on September 4 and wrap up the trio of in-state rivalry matches on September 7 versus Samford.
