CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team handed Austin Peay its first conference loss since 2018 Friday, earning a 4-3 win at the Governors Tennis Courts.
Harriet Hamilton's team-leading 12th singles win of the season secured the win for Jax State (8-6, 3-0 OVC) as the Gamecocks stayed undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play.
The senior and Charlie Croteau won their doubles set at No. 2, and Dariana Prato and Sara Jamal finished off doubles with a 6-4 win at No. 3 for the match's first point. Prato then followed up with a two-set win over Martina Paladini-Jennings (6-2, 6-4) at No. 4 to put JSU up 2-0.
Croteau made it a 3-0 advantage with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Ana Abertson at No. 5, but the Govs (5-2, 0-1 OVC) made a push with wins at No. 1 and No. 5 to pull within one point of the Jax State lead.
The final two matches of the day went to three sets, but Hamilton's win at No. 2 finished off APSU with the No. 3 set still playing. JSU's wins leader dropped her first set to Danielle Morris, but she rallied back for a 6-4 win in the second and took the third in a thrilling 7-6 (2) victory.
The Gamecocks return to the courts Saturday when they visit Murray State. First serve against the Racers is set for noon.
