JACKSONVILLE – After a road trip to Charleston, South Carolina, the Gamecocks will return home to host Alabama A&M on Tuesday, Sept. 7, in THE PETE. First serve is set for 6 p.m. Admission is free.
The Gamecocks enter the midweek matchup following a 1-1 outing at the Charleston Southern tournament this past weekend. JSU fell to Wyoming 3-1 on Friday, Sept. 3, and defeated Charleston Southern 3-1 on Saturday, Sept. 4.
JSU enters its fifth home match of the season, 4-0 at home and 5-1 overall. The Bulldogs are just 0-6 on the season so far. Alabama A&M has yet to win a set this season, falling 3-0 to Southern Illinois, Oral Roberts and UT Martin this past weekend in Carbondale, Illinois.
Six games into the season, senior
Lena Kindermann continues to lead the Gamecocks with 69 kills and ranks fourth in the ASUN. In addition, she is fifth with 3.83 kills per set and second in hitting percentage with a .413 mark. Against Charleston Southern, Kindermann reached 1,000 career kills with her sixth of the match, becoming just the 21
st Gamecock to reach the milestone. She went on to lead the Gamecocks with 18 kills in the win, a season-high.
Senior setter
Lexie Libs is leading JSU and the ASUN with 10.89 assists per set, having totaled 196 on the season. She had a season-high 43 in the comeback win against Charleston Southern. Libs also added 14 kills on the weekend, averaging 1.75 per set.
JSU leads the ASUN in hitting percentage (.304) and kills per set (14.30). The squad is second in total kills with 286, just behind Eastern Kentucky's 295.
Jax State and the Bulldogs have met eight times previously, with the Gamecocks leading the series 8-0. The last meeting was a 3-0 win for JSU in Jacksonville, on Sept. 19, 2017.
