Rifle Fires Season Best To Down Georgia Southern & North Georgia

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State rifle team turned in its best shooting effort of the season on Saturday inside the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on the JSU campus.

The Gamecocks combined for a 4664 in a tightly contested match with Georgia Southern and North Georgia. The Eagles of Georgia Southern finished four points back at 4660, while North Georgia posted an aggregate of 4632.

Jax State fired a 2351 in air rifle and added a 2313 in smallbore for the best mark so far on the season. JSU's previous top mark was a 4660 against UT Martin in a contest in Murray, Kentucky on October 22.

Junior Kim Jettenberg led the Gamecocks with a second-place finish in the individual standings. Jettenberg bolstered the squads smallbore mark with a 583, which was the second-best score in the discipline. She added a 587 in air rifle to complete the day with a final tally of 1170. Junior Lars Lilleng claimed third place with a total of 1166 on the day after registering a 386 in air rifle and a 580 in smallbore.

Sophomore Sam Burrow, senior Michael Dietz and freshman Annie Iannotti rounded out JSU's top-10 finishers. Burrow recorded an 1161 after shooting a 583 in air rifle and a 578 in smallbore. Dietz matched Burrow with an 1161 after carding a 588 in air rifle and a 583 in smallbore. Iannotti's match was highlighted by a 592 in air rifle and a 568 in smallbore. Her air rifle mark was second in the air rifle top-10 list.

The Gamecocks will wrap up the 2022 portion of the schedule at home against The Skyhawks of UTM on Friday, November 18, followed by the start of the annual Gamecock Invitational throughout the weekend at the JSU Rifle Range.
