MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State rifle team opened a busy weekend as the season begins the stretch run for a spot in the NCAA Rifle Championships in March.
The Gamecocks fired a combined score of 4678 on Saturday in the Bluff City, while the Tigers finished with a 4723 at the home range. Jax State posted a 2376 in air rifle and added a 2302 in smallbore. UofM had the edge in smallbore with a 2340, while turning in a 2383 in air rifle.
Senior
Sam Burrow led the Gamecocks with a fourth-place finish overall. Burrow recorded a 596 in air rifle and a 582 in smallbore for a total of 1178. Freshman
Jenny Ek and sophomore
Frans Rasmusson placed in the overall top-10 with Ek claiming sixth and Rasmusson following her in seventh. Ek carded a 595 in air rifle and a 573 in smallbore. Rasmusson registered scores of 594 in air rifle and a 573 in smallbore.
Sophomore Debbi Weiser contributed to Jax State's air rifle mark with a 591, while freshman
Alex Watts added a 585. Senior
Jersey Wilson contributed a 563 in smallbore.
The Gamecocks make the short trip from Memphis to Oxford, Mississippi for a Sunday neutral match against Murray State on the Ole Miss campus. That match will be the final one before the NCAA Qualifier match next weekend at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall.
