Jax State Rifle Establishes A New Season Best On Friday

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State rifle team established a new season best aggregate score after posting the previous best score of the season less than a week ago as the Gamecocks fired a 4679 on Friday at the Gamecock Rifle Range.

In a tune up match ahead of this weekend's Gamecock Invitational, Jax State was 43 points better than former Ohio Valley Conference rival UT Martin, who posted a 4636. The Gamecocks tallied an impressive 2365 in air rifle and added a 2314 in smallbore.

JSU's precious season-high of 4664 was against Georgia Southern and North Georgia last weekend.

Highlighting Friday's match was freshman Annie Iannotti was nearly perfect in air rifle with a 596 out of a possible 600 and sophomore Angus Babcock was the top overall finisher with a combined total of 1176. Babcock recorded a 594 in air rifle and a 582 in smallbore. He placed second in air rifle behind Iannotti and in smallbore, UTM's Alayna Walther finished one point ahead of him in smallbore.

Freshman Kyle Orr, junior Lars Lilleng and junior Kim Jettenberg rounded out the top-five on the individual standings list. Orr turned in a total of 1164 after a 588 in air rifle and a 576 in smallbore to claim third place. Lilleng followed Orr in fourth place after combining a 587 in air rifle and a 576 in smallbore for a daily total of 1163. Jettenberg placed fifth after scores of 587 in air rifle and a 572 in smallbore.

The annual Gamecock Invitational will get started on Saturday morning as JSU welcomes UTM, Murray State and UAB to Rowe Hall on the JSU campus.
