Rifle Claims Second Place in Gamecock Invitational

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State rifle team wrapped up the 2022 portion of the schedule with another solid outing in the Gamecock Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall.

After Jax State fired a season-best 4679 on Friday in a dual match with UT Martin, it completed the two-day event with a 4668. JSU finished second in the four-team invitational behind Murray State, who shot a 4708. The Gamecocks combined a 2359 in air rifle and a 2309 in smallbore for the total aggregate. UTM finished third behind JSU with a 4608, while UAB finished with a 4564.

Sophomore Sam Burrow led the Gamecocks over the last two days after a combined score of 1170 and finishing fifth on the individual list. Burrow posted a 593 in air rifle and a 577 in smallbore. Freshman Kyle Orr placed right behind Burrow after turning in a 589 in air rifle and a 580 in smallbore.

Sophomore Angus Babcock, juniors Kim Jettenberg and Lars Lilleng rounded out the top-10 individual finishes. Babcock tallied an 1166, while Jettenberg was one mark back at 1165. Lilleng registered a total of 1161.

Burrow, Babcock and freshman Annie Iannotti bolstered JSU's aur rifle score with all three sharing third place in that portion of the match by carding a 593.

The Gamecocks will be idle until January as it welcomes The Citadel to the Gamecock Rifle Range.
