Jax State Rifle Edged By Memphis in Home Opener

JACKSONVILLE – The nationally-ranked Jacksonville State rifle team fired at the targets in its own facility as Memphis edged JSU in the home debut on Saturday at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on the JSU campus.

The Tigers finished 25 shots ahead of the Gamecocks with a total of 4676 on Saturday, while Jax State turned in a 4651 aggregate score. The Gamecocks recorded a 2338 in air rifle and a 2313 in smallbore.

Sophomore Clark McWhorter led JSU in the home opener with a combined effort of 1168 to finish third in the overall standings. The Springville, Alabama native scored a team-high 589 in air rifle and added a 579 in smallbore. Junior Kim Jettenberg fired the top smallbore score for the Gamecocks with a 582, which was just ahead of McWhorter's mark. Jettenberg finished sixth overall. Freshman Annie Iannotti matched McWhorter in air rifle with a 589.

Sophomore Angus Babcock, junior Lars Lilleng and freshman Kyle Orr rounded out the top-10 on the individual list. Babcock carded a total of 1159, followed by Lilleng's combined score of 1157. Orr posted a final score of 1155.

Jax State will continue home activity next Saturday, hosting North Georgia and Georgia Southern at the Gamecock Rifle Range on Saturday, Nov. 12.
