Trailing 2-1 coming into the last plate appearance, junior
T.J. Reeves belted a one-out solo home run over the left field fence to tie the game. After junior
Carson Crowe worked a walk with two outs, senior
Alex Strachan lifted a fly ball to right field that was dropped by the UNA right fielder, allowing Crowe to score the winning run. It was JSU's first win in one-run situations this season.
The Lions scratched the first run of the contest in the third inning off of JSU starter
Tanner Jones. UNA manufactured the run after a leadoff single by Peyton Thomas. Thomas scored on Austin Thrasher's two-out single. UNA starter Will Haberstock kept the Gamecocks' off balanced in his 5.2 innings of work. JSU had chances to get even in the contest, but UNA worked out of jams all night as JSU stranded 11 base runners in the contest. UNA's Austin Emener pitched the final three frames and suffered the loss. The pair of Lion pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts.
JSU equalized in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by
Isaac Alexander, scoring sophomore
Mason Maners, who joined Reeves with two hits in the win. Maners delivered a one-out triple and scored on Alexander's fly ball to left field. Maners also had a double earlier in the contest.
The Gamecocks had the opportunity to tie the game up in the frame after sophomore
Reid Fagerstrom got them out of a bases loaded jam with no outs. Fagerstrom posted a strikeout and induced a double play to end the UNA scoring threat.
UNA manufactured its second run in the eighth after a leadoff walk. Thrasher picked up his second RBI of the night on a ground out to third base.
Fagerstrom was solid out of the bullpen for JSU with four innings of work and accumulating seven strikeouts, which matches a career high for him. Jones completed five innings and recorded five strikeouts in a no decision.
