
JSU Hosts Siena In Weekend Series

JACKSONVILLE - Jacksonville State begins a busy month of March, playing 11 of the 16 games during the month on Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium. The new month begins with a three-game, two-day weekend series with Siena.
The two clubs will play a Saturday twinbill at 3 p.m. and wrap up the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at JSUGamecockSports.com. Admission is free to all JSU students and fans 18 years old and younger. All three games against the Saints will not be available on ESPN+ due to JSU hosting the semifinals of the ASUN Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday evening and the quarterfinals of the ASUN Women's Basketball Championship on Sunday afternoon.
The Gamecocks hope to carry the momentum from last Sunday's win at Southern Miss. The Saints, who will play the first 18 games away from its home base of Loundonville, New York, are searching for their first win of the season after playing at Central Florida and College of Charleston in the first two weekends of the 2022 season.
This weekend's series between JSU and Siena will be the fifth series played between the two clubs and the first since the 2001 season. The Gamecocks and Saints played a series in the 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2001 seasons. The first contest between the two schools was during the 1992 season. The Gamecocks hold a 14-5 advantage over the Saints in the 19 previous meetings. Jax State has scored double digit runs in 10 of the 19 previous match ups.
Two veteran coaches lead Jacksonville State and Siena as JSU head coach Jim Case and Siena head coach Tony Rossi have a combined 74 years of head coaching experience between the two coaches. Case is in his 21st season as a head coach, while Rossi is in his 53rd season in charge of the Saints. Combined, Case and Rossi have coached 3,219 games. including over 1,500 wins.
Junior outfielder T.J. Reeves has made an immediate impact as a transfer into the program. The Birmingham, Alabama native has reached base in the first seven games of the season. He enters the weekend with a team-best eight hits, including three extra base hits. Reeves also is JSU's leading run producer with six RBI. Senior Alex Strachan and freshman Brennen Norton are right behind Reeves with seven hits each.
Jax State will stick with the same pitching rotation from the first two weekends of the season. Sophomore Reid Fagerstrom will start the series opener, followed by freshman Tanner Jones tossing the nightcap of the doubleheader on Saturday. Sophomore Camden Lovrich will take to the hill on Sunday. In his first two starts of the season, Fagerstrom has posted a pair of seven strikeout performances in 8.0 innings combined. Jones pitched a season-high 4.2 innings at Southern Miss, recording a strikeout in the outing. Lovrich matched his career-high in innings worked with 5.0 innings against USM.
