Soccer Continues Road Action This Weekend

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer team continues road activity with a Thursday contest with Gardner-Webb and a short trip to Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday evening against Georgia State.

Thursday's match in Boiling Springs, North Carolina will get started at 3 p.m. CST. Live stats will be available online at JSUGamecockSports.com. Kick off for Sunday's GSU match is set for 6 p.m. CST. The duel with the Panthers will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Gamecocks will be looking to grab their first win of the season after falling in the first four matches of the season. The JSU match will start a seven-match home stand for the Runnin' Bulldogs, who have started the season 2-1-1. GWU picked up its second win of the season in its last outing with a 1-0 decision over The Citadel. The Panthers, who will host Georgia on Thursday, will carry a 2-0-2 overall mark into that contest.

Junior Kylie Wells has led the Gamecocks in shots through the first four matches of the season with eight on the season. Wells, from Littleton, Colorado, has posted multiple shots in three of the four matches to start the season, including three against Alabama A&M last Friday. She is one of six Gamecocks to have multiple scoring opportunities. Freshman Birta Birgisdóttir and senior Briana Eads have three looks on goal, while junior Vanessa Mejia, freshman Ella Staub and senior Ali Thomas have two shots apiece.

Defensively, Jax State has played well for the most part in the first four matches. In last weekend's two road contests, Alabama A&M and Jackson State scored late goals to claim 1-0 wins. JSU has inserted freshman Bailey Dean in the goalkeeper position.

Thursday's test with GWU will be the seventh meeting all-time on the pitch between the two sides and the season consecutive season match up after the Runnin' Bulldogs claimed a 1-0 decision last season in Jacksonville after a first half goal held up for the win.

JSU and GSU will be meeting for the 23rd time as the two programs are separated by 94 miles. The Panthers lead the series 14-1-6. Scoring between the two clubs has been a premium as they have played three consecutive scoreless draws dating back to the 2016 season.
