Gamecocks Seeking Bounce-Back on Thursday

JACKSONVILLE – After suffering a disappointing loss on Tuesday against UAB, Jacksonville State men's tennis will hit the courts again on Thursday for a non-conference affair with Wallace State Community College. That match, which was originally scheduled for the afternoon, will now begin around 10 a.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts.
"One thing we've seen from the team this year so far is we've shown off our depth within our squad," associate head coach Trey Morris said. "A lot of our guys have contributed to getting results this season, and looking forward to Wallace State, we're going to continue to hopefully live off some of that depth.
"The great news is that we've got a really deep team and a great group of guys, so every single one of our guys can step up, compete, and play at the highest levels," Morris said. "We're excited for our guys to have another crack at it and have another opportunity to perform and get a result."
Jax State (4-4) could not capitalize in crunch time against the Blazers. The Gamecocks made things interesting as they tried to rally from a 3-0 deficit but faltered in a couple of three-set heartbreakers in the no. 5 and no. 6 singles flights. Those results led to a 5-2 loss against their bitter in-state rival, marking their third consecutive defeat. Now, Jacksonville State will try for a bounce-back against another Yellowhammer State program at home.
Wallace State is a perennial power on the men's side. The Lions have won four consecutive Alabama Community College Conference titles and are coming off a strong 2022 campaign in which they placed 10th at nationals.
Due to the likelihood of afternoon rain and storms, Thursday's showdown in Calhoun County will start at 10 a.m. Links to follow along with live stats will be provided at JSUGamecockSports.com.
