JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Jacksonville State rifle team had one final time to impress the NCAA Rifle Selection committee on Saturday with an NCAA qualifier match with UAB at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on the Jax State campus.
The Gamecocks, ranked 14th in the latest National Rifle Coaches Association, fired a composite score of 4664 at their home range, while the Blazers tallied an aggregate mark of 4561. Jax State's effort in air rifle continued to highlight the match with a 2353 total and adding a 2311 in smallbore. UAB posted a 2315 in air rifle and finished the day with a 2246 in smallbore.
Jax State will now await the committee's selections on Monday, February 20. The eight teams and select individuals will be announced on NCAA.com.
Sophomores
Angus Babcock and
Clark McWhorter shared medalist honors on Saturday as both Gamecocks registered an 1167. Babcock fired a 588 in air rifle and added a 579 in smallbore. McWhorter aided JSU's smallbore score after carding the top mark of 588.
Sophomore
Sam Burrow collected the top air rifle score of 593 to bolster the Jax State team score. Freshman Annie Iannotto matched Babcock in air rifle, while junior
Kim Jettenberg rounded out the top-five air rifle scores with a 585. Junior
Lars Lilleng placed fourth overall (1162) after a 584 in air rifle and a 578 in smallbore.
