JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State softball will host Georgia State at University Field Wednesday afternoon in the first of four home games this week for the Gamecocks.
Jax State (19-9) enters the contest riding an eight-game winning streak, which includes consecutive ASUN Conference sweeps to begin league play. The Panthers (13-18) are off to a 2-4 start in Sun Belt action and will visit University Field for the first time since 2014. While the all-time series is all knotted at 19 games apiece, GSU has won the last six meetings between the two schools.
Wednesday's game is set for 5 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ with live stats available at JSUGamecockSports.com. Admission is free to all JSU home games compliments of Martin's Family Clothing.
After a 10-for-17 stretch at the plate last weekend, redshirt-freshman
Morgan Nowakowski is now batting .340 on the season and carries a five-game hitting streak into the contest with the Panthers. Fellow freshman
Emma Jones is also on a tear riding a season-best six-game hitting streak. The Gamecocks collectively displayed their offensive prowess on the road at Bellarmine over the weekend, outscoring the Knights, 30-5, across three contests. With Jones and
Ashley Phillips setting the table early,
Lindsey Richardson (25) and
Linley Tubbs (19) continue to power the offense with team-high RBI's.
In the field, the Gamecocks have been equally as impressive over the recent stretch while backing up a stout pitching staff. Freshman
Jaliyah Holmes currently leads JSU with a 2.03 ERA, while sophomore
Sarah Currie is coming off a two-hit shutout in her last outing on Sunday.
Following GSU, the Gamecocks remain at home to host North Florida is three-game ASUN series beginning on Saturday.
