Jax State Lands Oakland Transfer Adams

JACKSONVILLE – Another versatile transfer has landed at Jacksonville State. It was announced by volleyball head coach Derek Schroeder on Monday morning that his program signed outside hitter Clarke Adams.

"We're excited to be adding another great human that happens to be a six rotation outside," Schroeder said. "Clarke will be another weapon at the pin that will help us vary our attacking system and keep opponents on their toes."

Adams, a 5-foot-9 attacker, joins the Gamecocks after spending two years at Oakland University in Auburn Hills, Mich. She played in 135 sets and 41 matches as a Golden Grizzly, earning the majority of her playing time as a sophomore last fall. The Houston, Texas, native was second on the team with 235 kills and 2.10 kills per set and hit .151 for an Oakland squad that scored seven Horizon League victories. Adams posted a career-best 15 kills against Queens in a five-set nail-biter against Jax State's former ASUN foe.

The Red and White's newest outside hitter had a very productive prep career in the Lone Star State. Adams was a four-year letterwinner at Bellaire High School and earned AVCA Preseason All-American honors in 2020. In addition, she was a TXSWA All-State Class 6A Honorable Mention selection as a senior and totaled over 300 kills and 344 digs as a junior in 2019.

Adams is the sixth member of Jacksonville State's 2023 recruiting class. She is the fourth Division I transfer along with Eastern Washington's Ellie Garrett, Prairie View A&M's Kaylee Moseley, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Stavroula Papazoglou. Junior college standout Katelyn Crofts and incoming freshman Selin Sakiroglu will also join the program this fall.

After shining in their short stint as a member of the ASUN Conference, Jacksonville State volleyball is set to transition to Conference USA beginning in the 2023 campaign. The Gamecocks will be part of an extremely tough league competing against foes such as Florida International, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee State, New Mexico State, Sam Houston State, UTEP, and Western Kentucky.
