JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer team returns to the Jax State Soccer Complex for its first Friday night action of the season, hosting Alcorn State under the lights.
The non-conference outing is set for 7 p.m. and admission is free to all home matches. The match will also be streamed on ESPN+.
Jax State will be looking to shake off the first road weekend of the season after a pair of setbacks to Samford and UAB in Birmingham last weekend. The Bulldogs of Samford controlled the match from the first kick to claim a 6-0 win last Thursday. UAB broke a scoreless draw late in the opening 45 minutes with a pair of goals before adding a third goal in the second half to post the 3-0 decision. Sophomore goalkeeper
Bailey Dean collected 16 saves in the pair of matches after facing a combined 48 shots.
The Gamecocks (2-2) and Lady Braves (0-3) will be meeting for the second time and the first meeting at the Jax State Soccer Complex. The initial meeting between the two sides came during the 2019 season with Jax State blanking ASU, 7-0, in Lorman, Mississippi.
Junior
Laleh Lonteen leads the Gamecocks after the first two weekends of the season with 10 shots on the season and collected four goals during the first two matches of the season. Sophomore
Camryn Davis is the team leader in goals with five on the season. The duo combined has combined for half of Jax State's scoring and has accumulated 11 points each. Lonteen has assisted on three goals, while junior
Kylie Wells has posted a team-best four assists on the season.
Bailey enters the weekend with 21 total saves on the season and has faced 56 shots in the four previous matches combined. She has a shutout and a combined blanking against South Carolina State.
The Gamecocks have a quick turnaround with a Sunday road outing at Chattanooga. Match time is set for 12 p.m. CT. The match will be available on ESPN+. Jax State returns to the home pitch on Thursday, September 7 to face Mississippi Valley State. Kick off is set for 4 p.m.
