Box Score CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – A pair of goals late in the opening half by Chattanooga was the difference in Jacksonville State's 3-1 setback to the Mocs on Sunday at UTC's Finley Stadium.
UTC's Caroline Richvalsky netted both goals in the span of two minutes to erase an early Jax State lead. Richvalsky equalized with a header off of a Mocs' corner kick in the 40th minute and added the eventual game winner just two minutes later with a shot to the top right corner of the goal. She completed the hat trick with her third goal of the day in the 64th minute. The Mocs posted 13 of their 15 shots in the first half, while limiting the Gamecocks to three in the first half and three in the final period.
"We probably scored the best goal of the season in terms of the team and I thought the drink break came at a bad time for us because it let them reset and we didn't capitalize on the second goal. We weren't competitive enough in the last half of the first half and that is ultimately where we lost the match," said head coach Sean Fraser.
Jax State's goal came off the foot of redshirt senior
Mya Fregoli in the 21st minute of the contest. The Michigan State transfer recorded her first as a Gamecock. Sophomore
Camryn Davis tallied her second assist of the weekend on the goal. The Gadsden, Alabama native had her first of the season in Friday's 4-1 win over Alcorn State.
Five different Gamecocks posted shots, led by freshman
Anika Konig, who had two attempts off the bench. Including Fergoli's shot, Davis,
Naroa Domenech and
Ella Owen was credited with a shot.
"We played the game in the second half the way we wanted to play in the first half. We have to be more locked-in," added Fraser.
