JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State volleyball closes out the 2024 regular season with a pair of home matches against Louisiana Tech on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Friday at 5 p.m.
The Gamecocks (8-21, 1-15) have been mathematically eliminated from the Conference USA Tournament as the league only takes the top eight teams, but they still have a chance to spoil the Bulldogs' (8-21, 2-14) opportunity of making the tournament. If LA Tech were to beat Jax State and Florida International loses their two matches against Sam Houston, the Bulldogs would be the eight seed.
For Jax State,
Kayla Williams is leading the CUSA in kills per set with her average of 4.00. Williams has totaled 428 kills on the season. She has contributed in a multitude of other areas as well as she has collected 164 digs this year and is 10
th in the league in the conference in service aces per set with an average of 0.34. Williams also has 18 total blocks.
Ellie Garrett has shined at the setter position throughout the season. Garrett is third in the league in average assists per set with 9.09. She has also added 94 kills, 27 service aces, 221 digs, and 52 blocks, respectively.
Brooklyn Schiffli has been another star for the Gamecocks all season. She has 456 digs this year and her average of 4.15 digs per set is enough for fourth in the CUSA.
Caty Havekost has been the Gamecocks' second-best offensive option all season. She currently is aver- aging 2.29 kills per set and is second on the team with 252 total kills this year.
Luci Wilkinson has been a huge player on the backrow with Schiffli as she is averaging 2.43 digs per set and has the second most digs on the year with 267 total to this point.
The match on Friday will be Jacksonville State's Senior Day. Seniors Schiffli, Garrett,
Katelyn Crofts,
Kaylee Moseley,
Kathryn Smith,
Carley Lynch, and manager Hanah Robertson will all be honored prior to Friday's 5 p.m. first serve. The two matches will be streaming on ESPN+, live stats will be available at JaxStateSports.com, and admission to all home volleyball games is free.
