Five Gamecocks Named To CSC Academic Women's Soccer Team

JACKSONVILLE – Five members of the Jacksonville State soccer team were named to the 2024-25 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Jax State graduate transfer Melissa Kuya Strobel, juniors Raylin Dixon, Nanaka Inaba, Ana Alvarez Garcia and Lea Monteiro excelled on the field and in the classroom by maintaining a 3.50 grade point average and above and contributing to the Gamecocks' success during the 2024 season. The quintet guided the club to eight wins and and a berth in the 2024 Conference USA Soccer Championship field.

Strobel, was one of eight Gamecocks to score multiple goals during the 2024 season and a key component to Jax State leading CUSA in total goals with 42 on the season. The Troy transfer finished her time in a Gamecock uniform with 13 points after adding five assists. She ranked third in total shots and in shots on goal. A native of Fürth, Germany, Kuya Strobel maintained a 3.75 GPA in graduate school for a Masters of Art/Integrated Studies.

Dixon was the anchor of Jax State's defense throughout the season. The Brandon, Mississippi native engineered six shutouts for the Gamecocks in 2024. She played in 18 matches and logged over 1,500 minutes on the pitch. Dixon compiled a 3.79 GPA and is majoring in management at Jax State.

Inaba helped orchestrate the league's top-scoring offense from her midfield spot. The Sunto Gun, Japan native was one of eight different Gamecocks to register multiple goals this season as she delivered three goals, highlighted by her equalizing goal against FIU to help her club secure a postseason spot in the 2024 CUSA Soccer Championships. Inaba tallied her second goal against conference competition in Jax State's win over Kennesaw State. Inaba, a First Team All-CUSA selection, has turned in a 3.70 GPA in integrated studies at Jax State.

Alvarez Garcia joined Inaba in the Jax State midfield to generate one of the top-scoring offenses in CUSA. The Eastern Florida State College transfer posted 13 shots and turned in over 1,400 minutes of action. Garcia, a native of Asturias, Spain, holds a GPA of 3.80 in integrated studies.

Monteiro keyed the Gamecocks' last line of defense along with Dixon. She joined the program from Eastern Florida State College and made an immediate impact. The Paris, France native saw action in 18 games and scored a goal at UNC Asheville. Monteiro Maintains a 3.60 GPA in integrated studies.

CUSA placed 27 student-athletes on the 2024 College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team. Liberty and WKU led all CUSA institutions with six honorees while FIU and Jax State followed with five.
