JACKSONVILLE – Jax State softball will host Chattanooga for its 2024 home opener Wednesday night at Jana McGinnis Field in the first of six-straight home games.
The Gamecocks (2-8) spent the first two weekends of the season on the road in Columbia, S.C. and Chattanooga, Tennessee. After taking part in Chattanooga's own tournament over the weekend, the Mocs (6-4) return the favor with their first trip to Jacksonville since 2008.
Overall, Jax State leads the all-time series 13-6 as the two sides prepare to square off for the 20th meeting since 1997. While in the Scenic City last weekend, Jax State's brightest moment came in sophomore Jaliyah Holmes' perfect game thrown against Murray State on Friday. The Gamecocks have used all six pitchers to begin the season, including strong efforts by freshmen Amber Reed and MacKinley Portillo.
Senior Lindsey Richardson's two home runs help her lead Jax State early offensive efforts with seven RBI. Redshirt-sophomore Morgan Nowakowski and senior Emma Jones each own a team-best 11 hits, including three doubles.
Wednesday's home opener, like all games at Jana McGinnis Field this season, will feature free admission courtesy of our partners at Martin's Family Clothing. The Chattanooga contest will start at 5 p.m. with live stats available at JaxStateSports.com.
The Gamecocks remain at home over the weekend to host the Cocky Classic tournament. Jax State will play Southern Miss and Samford Friday evening before a single game with Southern Indiana on Saturday. The weekend will conclude with afternoon games against Southern Indiana and Belmont.
