JACKSONVILLE – In the final tune up for the 2024 season, Jacksonville State and Samford played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday evening at the Jax State Soccer Complex.
The Gamecocks wrapped up the preseason slate with a win and Sunday's draw after blanking UAB, 1-0, last Monday night. Jax State will now shift its focus to Thursday's season opener against West Georgia at the Jax State Soccer Complex. Match time is set for 7 p.m. Admission is free to all home matches. Jax State will conclude the opening weekend of the season with a neutral site showdown with North Alabama. UNA and Jax State renews the rivalry on Sunday, August 18 at Joe Davis Stadium, the home of the Huntsville FC.
Jax State recorded its goal midway through the opening 45 minutes with a shot from senior
Laleh Lonteen. For the second consecutive outing, the Gamecocks were solid defensively by limiting the Bulldogs' chances along with creating other scoring opportunities to expand the advantage the rest of the match.
The Bulldogs kept battling until the final horn as they equalized with just under 30 seconds left in the final period.
