JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer team will close out the opening month of the season with another road trip as it will visit UNC Asheville on Thursday night.
Match time is set for 5 p.m. CT and will be available on ESPN+.
The Gamecocks will be looking to bounce-back from their first setback of the season after a 4-1 decision at Kentucky last Sunday after posting back-to-back wins over West Georgia and North Alabama to start the season. The Bulldogs will be looking for their first win of the season after starting the season at 0-3.
Thursday's contest will be the initial meeting between the Jax State and UNCA. The Gamecocks will be visiting the Tar Heel State for the first time since a trip to Boiling Springs, North Carolina to face Gardner-Webb during the 2022 season. UNCA becomes the fifth team from the state that the Gamecocks have played, joining Campbell, Elon, GWU and Western Carolina.
Through the first two weekends of the season, Jax State is averaging just over two goals per match. The Gamecocks enter the weekend ranked second in Conference USA in assists with eight on the season and tails CUSA assist leader, Liberty.
Individually, the Gamecocks have three different goal scorers through the first three matches, led by graduates
Melissa Kuya Strobel,
Tori Paul and junior
Naroa Domenech. The trio has combined for six-of-the-seven goals on the season. Junior
Allison Sibley tallied Jax State's goal in the UK match. Kuya Strobel also leads the team in assists with a conference-best three assists.
Jax State opens the month of September on Sunday against regional rival Chattanooga. Kick off is set for 6 p.m. at the Jax State Soccer Complex. Admission is free to all home matches.
