JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State soccer team will have its final dress rehearsal before the start of the 2024 season on Sunday against Samford.

The in-state friendly will kick off at 6 p.m. at the Jax State Soccer Complex. Admission is free to all home matches.

The match with the Bulldogs wraps up a two-match preseason docket after the Gamecocks blanked UAB last Monday, 1-0, in the first match action of the preseason. After a crash-course from the start of the preseason, Jax State put together a solid defensive effort with the shutout and created chances throughout each 30-minute session.

Jax State tallied the lone goal of the friendly midway through the third 30-minute period. Transfer Melissa Kuya Strobel recorded the goal with a shot in front of the Blazers' goal.

Sunday's contest starts a busy first week of the season for the Gamecocks as they shift their focus to the start of the 2024 slate with the home opener set for Thursday, August 15 against the Wolves of West Georgia. Match time is set for 7 p.m. Following the UWG match, Jax State will make the trip Huntsville, Alabama to wrap up the opening weekend of the season versus North Alabama at Joe Davis Stadium, the home of the Huntsville FC. The Jax State-UNA tilt will get started at 7 p.m.

Jax State's first true road action will be in the Bluegrass State against Kentucky. After only one home match in the month of August, the Gamecocks will enjoy the friendly confines of the Jax State Soccer Complex during the month of September with six-of-the-eight matches during the month played on their home pitch.

Jax State and Samford have met 20 times during the regular season, including the last three seasons dating back to the 2021 season. The Gamecocks and Bulldogs series on the pitch dates back to the 1997 season.
