
Gamecocks Return To CUSA Action Against SHSU, LA Tech

JACKSONVILLE - After back-to-back non-conference matches last Sunday and Monday, the Jacksonville State soccer team will look to carry the momentum from those two high-scoring matches into a big Conference USA weekend at the Jax State Soccer Complex.
The Gamecocks open the weekend a day later than normal with Hurricane Helene's track forcing Thursday's match with Sam Houston to be played on Friday afternoon. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. Jax State will wrap up the weekend against Louisiana Tech on Sunday, September 29 at 1 p.m. Admission is free to all home matches. Both matches scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
Jacksonville State's Louise Featherstone and Naroa Domenech combined for seven goals in the Gamecocks' 8-2 rout of Mississippi Valley State on Monday afternoon in Itta Bena, Mississippi. Both Featherstone and Domenech collected hat tricks in the rare Monday outing. Featherstone, a junior from Linlithgow, Scotland via Monroe College, finished with four goals on seven shots, while Domenech delivered three goals and an assist. It's the second and third hat trick of the season for Jax state as junior Allison Sibley tallied three goals against Alabama State earlier this season. Graduate Tori Paul picked up right where she left off from Sunday's action with her third goal in a span of 24 hours. Paul, who came off the bench for a pair of goals and assist versus Talladega College, added a goal and two more assists. Paul and Domenech will enter the conference weekend matches sharing the club's lead in goals-scored. Senior Salome Kerguillec was credited with a pair of assist in the final non-conference outing. Freshman Niobé Louis and senior goalkeeper were issued an assist. For the second consecutive match, Jax State dominated the possession and had a 17-8 advantage in total shots.
ABOUT THE SERIES VS SAM HOUSTON
Jax State and Sam Houston will be meeting for the second time with both meetings taking place in Jacksonville. The Bearkats, who joined Conference USA along with the Gamecocks last season, posted a 2-0 win in the league opener for both clubs.

Jax State and Louisiana Tech will be meeting for the seventh time and the second as conference mates. The Bulldogs have won four-of-the-previous meetings against the Gamecocks. Jax State's win in the series was a neutral site result during the 2012 season in a match played in Troy, Alabama. Last season, the two clubs played to a 3-3 draw in Ruston, Louisiana. Jax State erased a 2-1 deficit at halftime with a pair of goals in the second half.
RARE COMPANY
Jax State junior Louise Featherstone joined rare company in NCAA Division I Soccer during the 2024 season as the Monroe College transfer became the eighth player this season to register four goals in a single game after her performance against Mississippi Valley State. The four goals in one match leads all of NCAA Division I Soccer.
LEAGUE LEADERS
After scoring 14 goals in its last two outings, Jax State rose to the top of Conference USA statistical charts in goals, assists and total points. Entering the week, the Gamecocks lead the league with 29 goals, 29 assists and 87 total points. Those numbers also rank among the national leaders in NCAA Division I Soccer. Jax State's scoring offense ranks ninth in the nation with a 2.90 scoring average through 10 matches. The Gamecocks rank in the top-10 in points (6th), goals (8th) and assists (10th).

The Gamecocks will hit the road for the first time in Conference USA play next weekend with a visit to Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Thursday, October 3 to take on Middle Tennessee and concluding the weekend trip to Bowling Green, Kentucky for a Sunday match with Western Kentucky.
