MURRAY, Ky. – The Jacksonville State rifle team began the second half of its schedule with a solid showing at the Withrow Invitational, hosted by Murray State.
The Gamecocks fired a 4686 in their first competition since tabulating a season-best 4692 last November in the Gamecock Invitational. Jax State combined an air rifle score of 2360 and a 2326 smallbore on Sunday in MSU's Pat Spurgin Rifle Range.
Jax State was led by sophomore
Frans Rasmusson, who finished in the top-10 in the overall standings. Rasmusson claimed seventh place after turning in a 598 in air rifle and a 583 in smallbore for a total of 1181. He tied for second place in air rifle with a near perfect mark of 600.MSU's John Blanton claimed medalist honors with a 599. Rasmusson shared the silver spot with Emma Rhode of Nebraska.
Freshman
Jenny Ek recorded the second-highest aggregate score for the Gamecocks with an 1170. Ek scored a 586 in air rifle and a 584 in smallbore. She paced the squad in smallbore with that mark.
Sam Burrow added a final score of 1166 after posting a 587 in air rifle and a 579 in smallbore. Senior
Clark McWhorter rounded out the team score with an 1164.
Freshman
Alex Watts bolstered Jax State's air rifle mark with a 586, while sophomore
Debi Weiser finished air rifle with a 582.
The Gamecocks return to competition on Feb. 1 against The Citadel at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on the Jax State campus.
