DALLAS, Tex. – Jax State's senior libero
Luci Wilkinson has been named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season thanks to a pair of great performances against Middle Tennessee. She was previously named the league's defensive player of the week on Sep. 8 after three good performances in the Chattanooga Classic.
"Luci is the best pure 'get after it and dig the ball by any means' libero I have ever coached," head coach
Derek Schroeder said. "Her motor is second to none. Super happy for her to be recognized for a second time this season in CUSA."
Wilkinson helped the Gamecocks capture their first two conference wins of the season over the weekend. Jax State downed MTSU 3-1 on Friday, Oct. 3, then won 3-2 against the Blue Raiders on Saturday, Oct. 4.
In Friday's win, Wilkinson led the Gamecocks with 18 digs. She also added three service aces and five assists. Wilkinson's three aces contributed to an impressive 19 total aces by the Gamecocks. On Saturday, Wilkinson was even better on the back row with 25 digs. She also had five assists and two aces.
In total, Wilkinson notched 43 digs on an exceptional 4.78 digs per set, 10 assists, and five service aces.
Wilkinson has been consistently one of CUSA's best back row players this season with her 279 total digs ranking second in the league. Her 4.50 digs per set also ranks second.
Jax State and Wilkinson have Missouri State on Friday, Oct. 10, and Saturday, Oct. 11, next on the agenda. The matches against one of CUSA's newest members will take place inside Pete Mathews Coliseum.
