JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Jax State looks to improve upon its dominant five-game winning streak on Tuesday against Samford at Jana McGinnis Field. In Jax State's five game winning streak, it has outscored opponents 53-12.

Tuesday's game against Samford was originally slated to be the home opener for the Gamecocks this season on Feb. 12 before inclement weather postponed the game. Jax State opened up its home slate against Chattanooga two weeks later instead.
How Sweep It Is
The Gamecocks started off Conference USA play hot in 2025, earning a series sweep over the visiting UTEP Miners. The Gamecocks defeated UTEP by final scores of 6-0, 10-7 and 5-3 on the way to a 3-0 CUSA record. Jax State is one of two Conference USA teams to start the year 3-0, joining Liberty.
Gamecocks Riding Winning Streak
After a dominant week, Jax State looks to continue its momentum against Samford with a five-game winning streak on the line. The Gamecocks took home a pair of midweek wins by scoring 16 runs a piece before opening up its Conference USA slate with a three-game sweep against the Miners.
At The Top
The Jax State pitching staff has been elite in 2025, posting a team ERA of 1.57 through 22 contests. That mark ranks Jax State fifth in all of NCAA Division I softball. The Gamecocks only trail Tennessee, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Syracuse, while sitting just ahead of Florida and LSU.
Ashley's Number One
Jax State junior Ashley Phillips finished her week with an impressive offensive output, highlighted by a .538 batting average and a 1.154 slugging percentage. Phillips launched two homers and tallied a pair of doubles, helping Jax State to a 5-0 record and a Conference USA sweep over UTEP. Phillips was named Preseason All-Conference USA prior to this season.
Gamecocks Double up on CUSA Awards
Prior to this week, Jax State had earned back-to-back Conference USA Pitcher of the Week awards. Kat Carter earned the honors on Feb. 24 before Jaliyah Holmes followed suit by earning the honors on March 3.
Gamecocks Down No. 17 Mississippi State
Behind a complete game shutout from Kat Carter and timely hitting from the Gamecocks, Jax State knocked off No. 17 Mississippi State at the Rocket City Softball Classic, 3-0. Abbi Perkins led the Gamecocks at the plate, with a pair of fourth inning RBI's while coming around to score herself. The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning before Carter escaped the jam and earned her fifth victory of the season.
Boland Wins Number One
On Feb. 7, Julie Boland picked up her first career win over North Florida, 3-1. The Gamecocks used RBI's from Amber Reed and Ashley Phillips while Kat Carter finished with a 7.0 inning, no earned run outing against the Ospreys.
