Gamecocks Bounce Back at Samford
The Jax State softball team used a pair of no-doubt home runs to pull off the season sweep of the Samford Bulldogs on Wednesday. With the win, the Gamecocks snapped a five game losing skid. Aria Davis slugged a grand slam while Kailey Martin launched a three run homer of her own to help Jax State to a run-rule victory over the Bulldogs.
How Sweep It Is
The Gamecocks started off Conference USA play hot in 2025, earning a series sweep over the visiting UTEP Miners. The Gamecocks defeated UTEP by final scores of 6-0, 10-7 and 5-3 on the way to a 3-0 CUSA record. Jax State is one of two Conference USA teams to start the year 3-0, joining Liberty.
A Tale of Two Teams
Prior to its midweek contest with Samford, Jax State had allowed 40 runs in just its last six games after allowing just 55 runs in the 26 games prior this season. Through 26 games, Jax State ranked top five in all of NCAA Division I softball in team ERA before suffering a heavy offensive opponent output over the past three weeks.
Rookies in the Field
The Jax State defensive lineup is littered with freshman in the 2025 season, with 99 of 132 infield starts being made by rookies this season. Jaci Underwood, Kailey Martin and Aria Davis have each made 33 starts, with Ashley Phillips being the lone returner in the infield lineup so far this year.
Mo Hits, Mo Walks
Morgan Nowakowski has been a crucial piece for Jax State near the top of the lineup, batting .256, the second best mark on the team so far this year. Nowakowski has tallied 31 hits in 87 at bats this season while drawing a team best 17 walks.
Gamecocks Down No. 17 Mississippi State
Behind a complete game shutout from Kat Carter and timely hitting from the Gamecocks, Jax State knocked off No. 17 Mississippi State at the Rocket City Softball Classic, 3-0. Abbi Perkins led the Gamecocks at the plate, with a pair of fourth inning RBI's while coming around to score herself. The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning before Carter escaped the jam and earned her fifth victory of the season.
Boland Wins Number One
On Feb. 7, Julie Boland picked up her first career win over North Florida, 3-1. The Gamecocks used RBI's from Amber Reed and Ashley Phillips while Kat Carter finished with a 7.0 inning, no earned run outing against the Ospreys.
