JACKSONVILLE - The Jax State women's soccer team will play its second and final match in Huntsville this season, this time against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Sunday, August 31. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. from the Bulldog Soccer Field.
Jax State is 1-2-2 through the first five matches of the season, most recently falling 1-0 to the Samford Bulldogs in a home match on Thursday night. The Gamecocks defense held for nearly 80 minutes of action, but a 79th minute goal from Samford would prove to be the difference in the match as the Bulldogs escaped Jacksonville with a 1-0 victory.
Alabama A&M enters the match with a 1-4-0 record, most recently falling 4-0 to Southern Illinois in a home match. In its only other home match of the season, AAMU defeated Howard, 1-0. AAMU has also faced Conference USA member Middle Tennessee earlier this season, who defeated the Bulldogs in Murfreesboro, 2-0.
Four Gamecocks have recorded goals so far this season, including
Kaia Elverum,Â
Louise Featherstone,Â
Amelia Jacobs, andÂ
Emma Reeder. Alabama A&M has only scored one goal this season, with Danija Walker's goal against Howard serving as the game winner in that match.
Jax State leads the all-time series against Alabama A&M, 5-2. After the Bulldogs won the first meeting between the two in 2008, Jax State rolled off four-straight victories in the series to take a 4-1 lead. However, AAMU would win the 2022 meeting by a score of 1-0 to add another win, but Jax State would take the 2023 meeting 5-0 to extend the series lead to 5-2. In the 2023 meeting,Â
Naroa Domenech had a hat trick with three second-half goals, accounting for 60% of Jacksonville State's goals that day.
The match is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. from the Bulldog Soccer Field. There will not be a live stream of the event, but fans can follow along using the live stats or Jax State Soccer's Twitter (X) account
