Gamecocks Hit the Road, Take on Alabama State and Mercer

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. — The Jax State soccer team will head on the road to take on the Alabama State Hornets on Friday before heading east to take on the Mercer Bears on Sunday. The matches will begin at 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. central time, respectively.

The Gamecocks bring a 4-2-2 record into the weekend, which is its most wins in the first eight matches of the season since 2023, when the team opened the year 4-4-0. Jax State earned its fourth win over the season and third-straight over a SWAC opponent after a come from behind victory over Jackson State. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but goals from Amelia Jacobs and Alessia Donia would propel the Gamecocks to its third-straight win.

JAX STATE at ALABAMA STATE

The Hornets come into the Friday night match with a record of 0-6-1. After a season-opening draw against Mobile, the Hornets have fallen in six-straight matches, giving up a total of 20 goals and an average of 3.3 goals per game. Jax State holds an 11-0 record all-time against the Hornets, and have scored 58 total goals and average 5.28 goals a game. Jax State is 5-0 all-time in Montgomery and average 5.75 goals in road matches.

Three players have scored a goal for the Hornets, with Adriana Gallucci, Serenity Safeeullah, and Emmanuella Yapi tallying a goal. Emma Hemphill and Jenna Scholz have earned an assist so far this year. Gallucci is the Hornets' top shot-taker, with 10 shots on the year, three of which are on goal.

Two goalies have played for the Hornets this season, with Corrine Brookes playing slightly more than Kailyn Roselli. Both have three losses to their record, with Roselli taking the season-opening draw. Both have allowed 11 goals, but Brookes has 31 saves to Roselli's 14 this season.

The match will be streamed on the Hornet Sports Network, but fans will need to pay to watch.

JAX STATE at MERCER

As of Thursday morning, Mercer holds a 4-2-0 record, but the Bears host Winthrop on Thursday night, so the record will change prior to the meeting with the Gamecocks. The Bears are winners of three in a row, taking down Alabama State (6-1), Kennesaw State (3-2), and Gardner-Webb (5-0). Jax State is 0-6-1 all-time against Mercer, and is 0-4-0 in Macon.

Seven Bears have scored this season, led by Payton Nutzman and Morgan's Eikelbarner, who have both scored four goals each. Nutzman is also the team's leader in assists, who has contributed four assists for a total of 12 points so far this season. She also leads the team in shots, with 32 shots and 13 shots on goal.

Lindsay Bell is Mercer's lone goalie who has seen playing time this season. Through six games, she has 25 saves  on 99 shots and eight goals allowed.

Mercer has not announced if there will be any live stream of the match.
