DALLAS, Texas — Jax State's Raegan Whitaker was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, September 9, as voted on my members of the league.
Raegan Whitaker has led a defensive unit for the Gamecocks that is currently on a three-match win streak and has only allowed a single goal in those three wins. On Sept. 5 against Alcorn State, the defense prevented Alcorn State from scoring to earn a shutout victory. On Sept. 7 against Jackson State, Whitaker earned her first assist of the season and point of the season, earning this on a double assist where she sent a cross over to another player, who did not need to elude a defender to set up another player with the equalizer in the 56th minute.
Whitaker and the Gamecocks will be back in action for two road matches this weekend, beginning on Friday night when Jax State heads to Montgomery to take on Alabama State. The weekend will conclude with a Sunday match at Mercer.
