JACKSONVILLE – Jax State soccer will host the Sam Houston Bearkats on Saturday, October 17, for a 6 p.m. Conference USA match. It is the third time in program history the two teams meet on the pitch. The Gamecocks are 4-7-3 overall while the Bearkats are 5-4-4 on the season. Jax State is currently seventh in conference standings, and Sam Houston is sixth, both squads carrying the same league record of 1-2-1.
The Gamecocks are coming off its first conference win since 2024 after a 1-0 win against Kennesaw State. In that match, a long strike from Sunny Ferren was the difference, taking a shot just outside the Gamecocks' attacking third that bounced over the heads of a KSU defender and goalie for the score. Jax State will look to build off that win against Sam Houston. The Bearkats have won the previous two match-ups against the Gamecocks.
Sam Houston's attack is led by Asyhtn Magnuson and Siera Herbert. Magnuson has four goals on only nine shots this season, and Herbert leads the Bearkats in shots, 28, and has three goals on the season.Â
The Gamecocks are led by Rebecca Sierra-Burciaga and Emma Reeder. Reeder has seven goals on the season, which is third best in the conference, and Sierra-Burciaga has 32 shots, which is sixth most in the conference. Ferren also leads the conference in assists with four.
Camdyn Magrosky has been a spark plug for the Gamecocks in goal. The Jax State goalie is 3-3-1 since taking over and has posted 37 saves and a 0.822 save percentage. Last week, Magrosky posted eight saves in the victory over the Owls and won Conference USA goalie of the week for her efforts.
The game is set to kickoff at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, October 17, at the Jax State Soccer Complex, and will be televised on ESPN+.
